Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo Review: Dimple Kapadia has made her digital debut with Disney Plus Hotstar’s web series ‘Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo’. Dimple is seen in a funny way in her second inning. Dimple was also in ‘Pathan’, which was a super hit at the box office this year, and in ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar’, Dimple Kapadia appeared in the avatar of ‘Thappad Marne Wali Maa’. But Dimple, who is seen as a supporting actor in films, is seen in a bold style in her OTT debut. This series of director Homi Adajania is a crime drama series and in such genre you must have often seen men firing bullets. But ‘Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo’ is different in many ways.
This story has been fabricated in the village Runjh, situated in the Rann of Kutch, where a gang of mother-in-law and daughter-in-law and daughters will be found running the entire empire of drugs. Apart from Dimple, actresses Radhika Madan, Angira Dhar, Isha Talwar are in the lead roles along with Dimple Kapadia in this series being produced by Maddock Films. Apart from these, stars like Naseeruddin Shah, Ashish Verma, Varun Mitra, Udit Arora, Deepak Dobriyal and Monica Dogra will be seen. Now how much this story will impress you, or not, let us tell you.
What does the story of mother-in-law, daughter-in-law and flamingo say?
Saas, Bahu aur Flamingo is the story of Savitri, who runs Rani Cooperative, who was called Rani by all. Rani runs the business of puppets and clothes together with her daughter and two daughters-in-law. But her real business is the drug business named Flamingo in ‘Golden Ring’ (Central India and Delhi), which she runs under the guise of her Rani Cooperative. It is interesting that Savitri runs this whole business with her daughter, two daughters-in-law and one outspoken son, while her own two sons live abroad away from all this Gorakh business. They do not know what their mother actually does. This is a complete family of Savitri with daughters-in-law and sons, which you see standing together in the beginning. But slowly as the layers keep opening, the layers of many characters keep opening in the story of these mother-in-law and daughter-in-law and Flemings. But in the story, it is not only the complex characters of Savitri and her family, but also King Monk (Deepak Dobriyal) of the Silver Ring (North East) business in the drug trade.

The connection between the director and Dimple Kapadia
Homi Adajania, director of ‘Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo’, started his directorial journey with English psychological dramas like ‘Being Cyrus’. Dimple Kapadia and Naseeruddin Shah were also in that film. Dimple Kapadia has always been in Adajania’s filmography and perhaps this is the reason why Dimple was his first choice for his web directorial debut as well. It is interesting that before this Homi Adajania has made films for urban audience like ‘Cocktail’, ‘Finding Fanny’ but ‘Saas Bahu and Flamingo’ is a completely different experiment. And yes, Dimple Kapadia was in all the films that I mentioned.
These mother-in-law and daughter-in-law also fight, but with goons
Often crime, drama or such action-suspense thriller series are considered to be the domain of men’s dominance, but in ‘Saas Bahu Aur Flemingon’ women are doing all this work and that too without making any role or wearing tight clothes and flaunting facial expressions. Be women. Wearing ghagra-cholis, with many tattoo marks on their bodies and making puppet dance dolls, these women are doing stunts in these ghagras as soon as the goons attack them. Talking about mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, you remember TV serials, but Homi Adajania’s mother-in-law and daughter-in-law fight amazingly, but not with each other, but with goons. As soon as the series starts, in the first 1 minute you will know to what extent this series is going to show bloodshed. The bloodshed in the series is such that it reaches the level of gruesomeness. But all this is justified because you will be able to connect with the situations and feelings woven around each action scene.
In this series of 8 episodes, you start getting engaged with the story from the first episode itself. The first 2 episodes are of lighter moments. In the beginning, both the sons of Savitri who came from abroad look like cartoon characters. The way he sees the situation and the story behind the scenes, it all works well. However, in the initial episodes, the signal of the telephone is repeatedly mentioned that it does not come in the mansion. But in the same mansion, the elder daughter-in-law makes video calls while sitting in the bathroom, things seem a bit strange.
The funniest thing about any story is that the characters seen in the beginning of the story become something else by the end of the story. They take a journey, you can see their layers and this series comes true in that sense. The sons who seem strange to you in the beginning, how their characters change till the end, they are shocking. There are many complex characters. Interestingly, every episode is tight and the climax is really shocking. There are tremendous sequences in each episode and by the time you reach the final climax, you just want to know all the secrets. The layers of the characters and the story have been presented very beautifully.
By the way, looking at the climax, it can be said that this mother-in-law and daughter-in-law of director Homi Adajania is not going to stop here. ‘Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo’ released on Hotstar is a fun series and if you want to see some fun in suspense, action and thriller then you must watch this series. 3.5 stars to this series from my side.
